Herbie Hancock: Maiden Voyage

This 1965 Blue Note release is one of Herbie Hancock’s discographical gems. A sharpening of his composing style rather than an outright adventurous effort, this album’s opening salvo, “Maiden Voyage” is one of his best-known songs. What follows are five more selfpenned tunes, including the great closer, “Dolphin Dance”. The band, including trumpet firebrand Freddie Hubbard and young drummer Tony Williams, was typical of the stellar units Blue Note was capturing at this time. RVG remastered edition. Total Time: 42 minutes
